I have another favorite book to share with you. If you haven’t read it yet, you are in for a major treat. I read Wonder about 5 years ago when I was teaching 5th grade. I 100% could not put it down. It was THAT good. When I did finish the book, I literally held it against my chest and gave it a hug. I loved this story and its characters that much.
Auggie is a boy entering 5th grade who has a facial-cranial difference; meaning his face doesn't "look" like most people's does. He has had numerous surgeries on his face, so he has been homeschooled for a while. He is ready to try school out again, but is also very nervous because he "looks different". And, well, we all know, some kids can be really mean. Luckily, there are some kids who are also really nice. This book will take you through the life of Auggie, his family and his friends and what they all go through, think and feel in regards to life.
So, here’s another interesting tidbit: I actually know a person who is just like Auggie (the character in the book). His mom and I have been friends for almost 30 years. And he is a pretty cool kid, just like Auggie! When we finish reading the book, I’ll show you a picture of Connor (my friend’s son). I think you guys are going to LOVE this book.
I think we are going to have some awesome discussions. I think you are going to want to hug the book when we finish it, too!
